Why Do All Living Things Need Food?

All living things need food to survive, stay healthy, and build their bodies.

⚡

1. Gives Body Energy

Food provides the fuel our muscles and brain need to run, study, breathe, and play.

Power: 100%
🧱

2. Growth of New Cells

Living things grow taller and bigger because food builds millions of brand-new cells every day.

🦠 🦠
🩹

3. Repair Damaged Parts

When you get a scratch or cut, food nutrients heal the skin and fix injured body tissues.

🩹 Cut is Healing...
🛡️

4. Stay Healthy

Nutrients defend against illnesses and keep organs working properly.

How Food Enters Our Cells: Simple Soluble Substances

Crucial Rule from Page 18: Food cannot enter cells as large solid pieces. It must first be changed into simple soluble substances (dissolved nutrients like glucose) so it can enter through cell membranes.

Food of Plants: The Green Food Factories

Plants do not "eat" food like humans and animals. Most green plants make their own food!

🌱 Plant Food Recipe (Input)

Tap each raw material to feed the leaf factory:

What Happens When Plants Lack Minerals?

Plants need 4 vital minerals: Sulphur, Calcium, Iron, and Nitrogen. What happens without them?

S Sulphur
Ca Calcium
Fe Iron
N Nitrogen
☀️
Soil contains: Sulphur, Calcium, Iron, Nitrogen

Where Do Plants Store Extra Food?

Extra food made in the leaves may be stored in different parts of the plant.

Underground Roots
🥕

Underground Roots

Examples: Carrot & Beetroot

The plant sends extra food down to swelling taproots deep under the soil.
Stores: Carbohydrates / Sugars
Underground Stems
🥔

Underground Stems

Examples: Potato & Ginger

These are swollen stems growing underground (tubers/rhizomes) containing buds ("eyes").
Stores: Starch & Nutrients
Desert Water Stems
🌵

Stems in Dry Areas

Example: Cactus

Plants living in dry desert areas store large amounts of water in their fleshy green stems.
Stores: Water to survive drought
Sweet Fruits
🍎

Fruits

Examples: Apples, Bananas, Oranges

Fruits develop from flowers and store rich natural sugars to attract animals.
Stores: Sugar
Plant Seeds
🌽

Seeds

Examples: Sunflower seeds, Corn, Beans, Nuts

Seeds pack concentrated energy to feed the baby embryo plant until it can grow leaves.
Stores: Starch & Oil

Food of Animals: The 7 Food Substances

Animals cannot make their own food. They feed on living organisms such as plants and other animals.

🍞 Carbohydrates
🥩 Proteins
🥑 Fats
🍊 Vitamins
🧂 Minerals
🌾 Fiber
💧 Water
NEEDED TO LIVE
🔥

Primary Food Substances

Proteins + Fats + Carbohydrates

Called primary food substances because they are vital fuel and building blocks that animals need to survive and live.

🛡️

Protective Food

Mineral Salts + Vitamins

Called protective food because they guard against disease, regulate organ functions, and keep the whole body healthy and strong.
